Dennis and Peter with the compass from the Russian submarine SOM (former the Holland 1 ”Fulton”). SOM sunk the 23 May 1916 after a collision with a Swedish mail steamer.
Rasmus Ravensborg dive team made the salvage effort of the compass from 88 meters depth.
The diver Martin Kindvig succeeded to take ultrasonic thickness measurements of the submarine’s hull, much thanks to Cygnus Instruments ultrasonic gauge; DIVE.
Next step is to convince the Russian authorities to cooperate with us since both ”sides” want the same thing; salvage the submarine, take care of the remaines of the 18 submariners and make sure they will get their final rest in Russian soil, and then bring the submarine to Russia.
For information, the compass is now handed over to the police to be stored under their responsibility, with the maritime musuem supervision.

Burned organic material on Baltic anomaly rock sample
Preliminary lab tests made by different experts at the Weizmann Institute of Science and the Institute of Archaeology in the Tel-Aviv University (Micromorphology of Archaeological Sediments and Infrared Spectroscopy) shows that a piece of basalt rock that was recovered from the circular shaped anomaly in the Baltic Sea has burned organic material on it. Further analyzes will hopefully show what kind of material it might be, and even try to date it.

Last expedition 2012
The Ocean X Team went on their last expedition 8-14 September. The weather was too bad to be able to carry through any of the planed actions at the circle anomaly. The time at sea were spent on searching wrecks instead. Despite the rough sea the team managed to survey an area of 28 Km² of the sea floor. The team came across some interesting hitswhich have to wait till next year before the team will be able to investigate closer what they might have found this time.
Further investigation of the circle anomaly is still desirable since more questions have risen instead of being answered at the expeditions this summer, 2012.

The s/s Astrid expedition
During one of Ocean X Team’s expeditions in the summer of 2012 the wreck of s/s Astrid was found in international waters. Astrid was built in 1872 in England as the yacht Saga, she changed owner a few times before ending up in Sweden to serve as a freighter. She was 34 meters long and 6.5 meters wide and was propelled by a 150 HP steam engine. It was during a trip between Stockholm and Rauma in Finland on 11 September 1916 thatAstrid finally met her final fate. She was discovered by the German submarine U 22 (which incidentally was the same sub that sunk the ship Jönköping which carried the famous champagne load, salvaged in 1997/98). Astrid was stopped by U 22 and the German captain decided after been reading the freight documents that Astrid brought contraband in her cargo and therefore they had to sink her. After Astrid’s crew, which consisted of 10 men and two women, had entered the two life rafts the submarine opened fire with its deck gun. 16 shells were fired in total and after the first shell the boiler blow into the air with the result that the superstructure was razed completely. Fire broke out and at 13:40 in the afternoon she sunk and would not been seen again for 96 years. Astrid’s life rafts with her crew were towed towards the Finnish coast by U 22. They were however left some 10 nautical miles off the Finnish coast and had to row the final distance before reaching land.
Dives has been performed with both divers and robots to a depth between 65-58 meters. Astrid is very badly damaged due to the fire and the damages caused by the gun fire. Among other things, most of the bottles of port wine that was in her hold were shattered and the divers had to dig through broken glass to find the rare whole bottles. Despite this, the Ocean X Team’s expedition could shoot some unique pictures and video sequences of a long-forgotten ship.

Talking about the object they found in the baltic sea.
Peter Lindberg drew a picture to explain the question how the circular object is attached to its foundation.
”During the last expedition it was confirmed that there is a wedge formed gap between the upper part (the circle) and the lower part (foundation/pillar). However, if the two parts are completely sepparated or if the upper part and the lower part are the same object has not been clarified”.
The Ocean X Team returned with Ancylus to shore this Saturday.
After the expedition there are still a lot of questions that needs answers.
So the crew are planning more trips with the Ancylus in the future to try and solve the mystery.
On the last trip they managed to acquire samples from the unexplainable object.
The samples has been sent to analysis and as soon as we get the results, we will provide more info here.

Yesterday night the team returned temporary to shore to resupply and fix some technical problems. They will depart tonight as soon as everything is solved and ready.
The mood was good despite the technical issues.

Today Monday the 9th of July, Ocean X Team left on their second expedition to solve the mystery about the Baltic Sea anomaly.
After a lot of preparations have been made but they got everything ready in time to leave the harbor.
The crew will return to shore 21th of July and is only available on satellite telephone.
Hopefully we will give daily news about their progress.

The Baltic Sea circle mysterymay soon be solved.
The plot thickens around the strange circle on the Baltic Sea bottom.
Dennis Åsberg and Peter Lindberg is now leaving on a new expedition.
Last summer Dennis Åsberg and Peter Lindberg did what maybe was the biggest discovery in their entire life. On 87 meters deep (285 feet) in the middle of the Baltic Sea, they discovered a circular object with a circumference of 180 meters (590 feet) and 60 meters (197 feet) in diameter.
They did two dives on the object together with their crew to try to figure out what is hidden beneath. A year later the mystery is still unsolved.
Around mid-summer this year they got to shore from their last expedition and today they leave again. –We dived to the object twice; we already know that the object we have found is unique. What we are going to do now is to take a sample of the object itself, says Dennis Åsberg.
“It is not a submarine”
Hopefully the analysis of the samples will bring clarity to what it is that´s hiding on the bottom. There has been different theories about what it might be, everything from a geological formation to a Russian submarine base.
Now the treasure hunters have found a hole on the object that leads right through it.
–It´s not a missile silo and it´s not a submarine. Maybe it is a little town down there, says Dennis Åsberg.
Many think it is a UFO -The circular shaped object mainly has caught the attention of the UFO enthusiasts. About 95% of everyone who is following the search, think that it is a UFO, Dennis Åsberg says
-A long time I thought that it might be a meteorite, but a meteorite would have created a much bigger mess on the surroundings and there is none. Off course you have to be realistic but this is strange, very strange.
